MUSEUM FOUNDATION & PARTNERS
The Western Australian Museum Foundation was established in 1995 as the primary fundraising partner of the Western Australian Museum. The Foundation administers a wide range of fundraising programmes that provide financial and in-kind support for the Museum.
Since the Foundation’s inception in 1995, it has played a critical role in encouraging public investment in the Museum through a number of corporate partnerships, donations, gifts and bequests.
The Foundation provides individuals and corporations with an opportunity to become involved with the preservation and research of Western Australia.
Some major projects made possible through our partnerships, include:
• Operation Leo - With the assistance of the Rio Tinto WA Future Fund ground-breaking research is being carried out on some of Australia’s long extinct mega fauna including the Thylacoleo (Marsupial Lion) and the 3 metre tall Kangaroo Procoptodon.
• The Discovery Centre at the Perth site is an educational facility where all generations can explore and discover a huge range of artefacts ranging from dinosaur fossils to meteorites. The Discovery Centre was developed in partnership with a consortium of Japanese Companies.
• The Shell Great Ocean Experience Theatrette at the Maritime Museum on Victoria Quay, Fremantle is a state-of-the-art multimedia experience showing the stories behind the Australia II victory of the America’s Cup and heroic journeys of around-the-world yachtsmen and women.
• Alcoa Frog Watch, is a very successful community-based programme which provides information on how to promote and preserve healthy frog habitats.
• The Woodside Marine Survey of the Dampier Archipelago, researched the unique ecosystems of this significant natural heritage area.
• With the assistance of the WMC - Sir Lindesay Clarke Trust Fund, the 4 room Miner's Cottage of the local Sheehan family, circa 1930, was reconstructed and refurbished. It can be seen at the Western Australian Museum Kalgoorlie - Boulder.
A wide range of partnership and donor opportunities across our seven Western Australian Museum sites are available under Partnership Opportunities.
