More rain and wet boots…

Our 2009 trip to Leaena’s Breath Cave was beset by wind and rain, balanced by some great finds underground. The last couple of days on this trip have been eerily reminiscent with several tents suffering from broken poles and leaking holes, including mine, which is leaking like a sieve through the floor. And of course everyone has wet clothes and most annoyingly wet socks and boots! After huddling in the mess tent for another stellar Carey dinner, lentil and tomato soup followed by vege curry and vege bread, we all sat around the campfire, lined the edge of it with our boots and socks and watched them steam. The highlight of the day for everyone was putting them back on after an hour of banter and hilarity, dry and toasty warm. Ah, the simple pleasures of camping on the Nullarbor… And before I sign off the media interest about the possible eagle fossil mentioned in yesterday’s blog caught us by surprise, but the best thing is that more of the animal continues to emerge from between the boulders at the base of Pit B. It’s going to be a cracker of a specimen, wedge-tailed eagle or not!
