Submarine Heritage

Australia's submarine heritage goes back to December 1910 when two modified E class overseas submarines were ordered from Vickers in England. This single act recognised the tactical advantages these craft would bring to the then fledgling Royal Australian Navy. It started a tradition that exists to this day and is demonstrated in the building and operation of the Collins class boats.
This site hopes to highlight and stimulate interest in this heritage with its close ties to the navies of its allies Britain, the United States, and the Netherlands. They have stationed submarines in Australia at Sydney, Fremantle, and Brisbane. Many of the crew members of these boats married local girls and eventually settled in Australia.
Please join us in experiencing and learning about the people, events, places and associations that have all played their part in this interesting heritage.
