CHORDATA: PISCES (FISH)
The Fish Collection of the WA Museum holds approximately 48,000 specimen lots of marine and freshwater fishes (mainly "wet" preserved). It includes more than 300 Holotypes and 1600 Paratypes. Detailed information for all specimen lots is catalogued in a database to aid in scientific research.
The collection ranges from temperate to tropical areas of the Western Australian coast and adjacent Indo-West-Pacific regions. It comprises mainly Western Australian marine fish, but also has Indian and Pacific Oceans marine fish, Papua New Guinea and Indonesian freshwater collections.
The curator of the Fish collection of the Western Australian Museum is Dr Barry Hutchins. His research interests are leatherjackets, clingfishes, biodiversity in shallow reefs and the Leeuwin Current.
