The Museum houses both the historically important Simpson Mineral Collection (opens in new window) and its own original mineral collection, started in 1881.

Today, the combined collections total more than 30,000 specimens. Information on most of the collection is stored electronically.

The Simpson Collection is a special reference collection of several thousand specimens collected during the period 1897 to 1939 by the late Dr E.S. Simpson.
