Captured in Colour is a beautiful exhibition from the Australian War Memorial that features over 80 rare colour photographs taken during the First World War (1914 to 1918) from Australian and French archives. On display at the Western Australian Museum - Geraldton, from 25 March - 7 May and then the Western Australian Maritime Museum, Victoria Quay, Fremantle, from 13 May – 2 July, these stunning photographs are a contrast to the familiar black and white images that many people associate with early twentieth century photography. Captured in Colour showcases colour images, presented as colour prints produced from the French original Autochromes and Australian plates. The exhibition features images taken by Australian war photographers Frank Hurley and Hubert Wilkins and French photographers Paul Castelnau, Fernand Cuville, Albert Samama-Chikli, Jules Gervais-Courtellemont and Léon Gimpel. This is the first time that these rare images have been produced together and displayed in Western Australia. Do not miss these rare and captivating colour photographs that give a glimpse of a wartime era that is long gone. Exhibition Details: Western Australian Museum - Geraldton
