Live Frogs and Frog Talks at the Museum's Discovery Centre

The Discovery Centre is the Western Australian Museum's interactive learning zone located in the Perth Cultural Centre. We have a selection of frog species from the southwest and the Kimberley to provide a glimpse of the diversity of the 80 species from around the state.

Talks about frogs are held in the Discovery Centre for school and community groups. Alternatively, frog kits for teachers are available for hire from the WA Museum's Education Department. If your school or community group is interested in hearing a frog talk, then please e-mail us at frogwatch@museum.wa.gov.au. More...

Frog Calls of South West Australia

One of our most popular products is the CD of southwest frog calls. Frogs from the southwest are mostly ground frogs with many distinctive calls. You'll find your clicking and beeping-type calls here, but also a whole lot of hooting, moaning, trilling, quacking and squelching too. Excellent high quality recordings are by Dale Roberts from the University of Western Australia. More...

Western Australian Museum publications

The Museum and Alcoa Frog Watch have produced several great guides to WA frogs.

The field guide of WA frogs was written by Australia's frog expert, Professor Mike Tyler, with Laurie Smith and Ron Johnstone. This book provides detailed species descriptions, high quality photographs and distribution in the state. It is an essential guide for frog enthusiasts heading out to the bush and is the essential reference for WA frogs.

Alcoa Frog Watch has published a lovely guide entitled "Building Frog-friendly Gardens" by Ken Aplin, Anthea Paino and Lyndal Sleep. Available from the WA Museum Bookshop, the booklet has been specifically written for frogs of the Perth region, but the principles apply more broadly to WA and the rest of Australia. The book contains all you need to know (and then some) on how to get started on building a frog pond and planting your garden so that it's frog-friendly. Step-by-step instructions are provided for installing a pond and planting native vegetation that will be good for frogs and other native wildlife. More...
