North Coast

The coast north of Perth has many species adapted to living on sand, especially the Sandhill Frog, Turtle Frog and Sand Frog. Two arid-adapted Neobatrachus occur in this region (e.g., Shoemaker Frog) and other species occur just outside (Kunapalari and Tawny Trilling Frogs).

		Moaning Frog Heleioporus eyrei
		Size - medium Look for - brown and grey back, yellow spots on sides Breeding Season - autumn Call - a long low rising moan

		Sand Frog Heleioporus psammophilus
		Size - medium Look for - body with grey and brown mottling Breeding Season - autumn Call - high-pitched rapid “whup whup whup whup”

		Western Banjo Frog Limnodynastes dorsalis
		Size - large Look for - robust build, stripe through eye, pale centre line Breeding Season - winter and spring Call - single very loud "bonk"

		Size - large Look for - green, brown and gold back Breeding Season - late spring through to summer Call - like a motorbike changing gears

		Turtle Frog Myobatrachus gouldii
		Size - small to medium Look for - tiny head on wide flat body, loose-fitting skin Breeding Season - late summer Call - deep croaks

		Size - medium Look for - bright yellow back with brown patches Breeding Season - after rains in summer Call - short repetitive tapping

		Size - small Look for - large yellow "W" on back Breeding Season - summer after rains Call - a hollow tapping

		Size - small Look for - short arms and legs, crawls Breeding Season - autumn Call - short sharp grating sound
