Vergulde Draeck (Gilt Dragon)

Five fragments of hull planking (probably all from same timber), plus 15 tiny fragments that have crumbled or broken off the larger fragments. Wood poorly preserved, warped, and cracked longitudinally in direction of its grain. One with treenail, round in section, and nail plug preserved on its interior surface. Another with a partial treenail hole. Exterior surfaces: sheathing nail holes, square in section, closely spaced in diagonal or alternating pattern.

Vergulde Draeck (Gilt Dragon)

The Vergulde Draeck (Gilt Dragon) sailed from Texel bound for Batavia (Jakarta), under Pieter Albertsz carrying trade goods and eight chests of silver to the value of 78,6000 guilders. On 28 April 1656 the Vergulde Draeck was wrecked just south of Ledge Point. 75 of the 193 made it to shore.
