Zeewijk

Cauldron or 'Kettle', copper. Side missing. Wall made from c. 3 sheets of copper w/ c. 55 mm overlaps & vertical rivets (x 7-8)@ 20 mm diam. Rolled rim. Base made from single copper sheet raised 135 mm up side of wall sheets and rivetted w/c. 80 mm overlap and rivets A/A. 2 Rivets where handle was attached.

Zeewijk

Zeewijk was wrecked on the Houtman Abrolhos on 9 June 1727. The Zeewijk did not break up immediately and goods, including the treasure chests, were transferred to Gun Island. It was obvious to the crew that the ship could never be floated from its position locked into the reef.
