Volunteers Program
The role of the WA Museum – Maritime is to collect, preserve, research and interpret the maritime heritage of Western Australia.
The primary objective of the Volunteers Program is to encourage community involvement in the Museum.
The WA Museum – Maritime Education Section was established in 1989 to assist in the interpretation and the community education function of the museum by promoting, to as wide an audience as possible, Western Australia’s maritime heritage and the work and achievements in this area, by the Museum.
An important means of achieving this aim is to engage the public directly in the heritage experience. One of our most valuable ways of delivering maritime heritage stories to school and community groups is by the personal involvement of our corps of trained Education Volunteers.
Our Volunteers deliver education tours and curriculum related programs across the Museum’s multi-site Fremantle precinct. Sites include:
Shipwreck Galleries in Cliff Street
Maritime Museum and Submarine Ovens on Victoria Quay
Volunteers also operate the Robert Steele Marine Engine Workshop on Victoria Quay.
