WA Museum scientist wins Mawson Medal

Western Australian Museum Palaeontologist Ken McNamara

Western Australian Museum palaeontologist Dr Ken McNamara has been awarded the prestigious Australian Academy of Sciences’ Mawson Medal for his outstanding contribution to earth science in Australia.

It is the first time in its 25-year history that the bi-annual medal has been awarded to a scientist working in a museum environment and the first time in 20 years that it has been awarded to a palaeontologist.

The Mawson Medal was presented to Dr McNamara in Canberra and he deliverede the 2006 Mawson Lecture in Melbourne at the Australian Geological Convention on July 6.

The medal and the lecture commemorate the work of the famed Antarctic explorer Sir Douglas Mawson.
