HMAS Sydney: Ross Anderson and Tom Goddard Interview

Listen to Geoff Hutchison from ABC 720 interviewing Tom Goddard, the nineteen year old surfer who found the remains of a handgun believed to be from the HSK Kormoran, and Ross Anderson, maritime archaeologist with the WA Museum who identified the gun and went to Red Bluff with Tom to inspect the concretion left by the gun. This interview was recorded live at the WA Museum – Geraldton on the anniversary of the sinking of the HMAS Sydney and HSK Kormoran. 19 November 2008

Internationally renowned photographer Edward Burtynsky presented a free floor talk at the Western Australian Museum – Maritime on his new body of work Australian Minescapes.
Commissioned for FotoFreo 2008 these large scale photographs were taken in the Eastern Goldfields and Pilbara regions of Western Australia and continue Burtynsky’s examination of natural landscapes modified by mankind.

From Rust Buckets to Luxury Liners Australian Migrant Ships 1946 - 1960: A lecture by Peter Plowman 29th February 2008.

Peter’s lecture presents a unique opportunity to learn more about the development of post-war migrant movement to this country by ship. He covers both British nationals and displaced persons, with frequent references to the types of vessels they travelled on and extracts from newspapers of the day to illustrate the conditions they travelled under.
