What's On
Western Australian Museum – ALBANY
THE MARY SUREFOOT SHOE COLLECTION
Western Australia Museum - Albany27 September – 12 October
Take this chance to experience life in another’s shoes! Join Mary as she shares her shoe collection and takes you on an exciting journey all the way to the moon, to exotic Japan and aboard a tall sailing ship. While the big kids are busy watching the performance, it’s the perfect opportunity for the younger members of the family to take part in our free junior shoe activity which is ideal for children under five.
Each performance is followed by a free shoe workshop where you will have a chance to create your own 'Surefooted' shoe character. Using the inspiration of the production and either an old shoe provided by the WA Museum or one brought from home, create a character to match the shoe’s personality or give the shoe a new lease of life in its own adventure.
If you feel up for a challenge then why not try following our mystery shoe walking trail around town! You can also challenge your friends and family to take part in several competitions including a horse shoe throwing competition and a gumboot hurling competition. Other workshops being run over the holidays include the Show What workshop where you can find alternative uses for shoes as well as a workshop where you can bring along one of your own shoes to decorate in a wild and unusual way. Please contact the WA Museum - Albany for more information about these workshops.
