Pioneer Days
Years K - Year 3 1.5 hours $5.00
Have fun finding out about life in colonial times. This
program is also available as an assisted visit on site at
the Pioneer Museum in Greenough.
Geraldton’s Story
Years 3 - 7 1 hour $3.00
Who were the original inhabitants? What brought
Europeans to Geraldton and why did they choose
Champion Bay? How did the environment affect the
settler? What other difficulties did they face? How has
the town changed?
Olden Days School Ways
Years 3 – 7 1.5 hours $3.00
Discover school life from the past. Draw on a slate with a slate pencil, write with a scratch pen, do maths
with pounds, shillings and pence, play the games of
yesteryear and participate in an old fashioned reading
lesson.
Bush Food and Medicine Plants
of the Mid West
Years 3 - 9 1 hour $3.00
The Indigenous people have known about them for
thousands of years. See how many you can recognise
and discover their uses.
The Convict Era
Years 4 - 7 1 hour $3.00
Find out why convicts were sent to the Mid West.
Discover what life was like for convicts and the guards
sent out as overseers. What contribution did convicts
make and what tragedies befell them?
Sustainability of Life and Resource Use
Years 4 – 7 1 hour $3.00
Explore the resources of the Mid West and the human
impact on natural systems. Consider how resources
are able to be conserved and strategies for everyday
sustainable practice.
The Murchison Goldrush Era
Years 4 - 9 1.5 hours $3.00
When gold was discovered in the Murchison in the
1890’s it had a major impact on Geraldton. Why? What
was life like for the miners? Where had they come
from? Where did they go? How did they adapt?
Shipwreck Stories
Years 4 - 9 1.5 hours $3.00
Australia’s worst mass murder took place off the coast
of Geraldton. Hear the story of the Batavia or how the
enterprising survivors of the Zeewijk managed to save
themselves. What do you think happened to the survivors
of the Zuytdorp? True stories to capture the imagination
of your students before viewing the Shipwreck Gallery.
New Programs 2008 available from Term 3
Immigration and the Mid West
Years 4 – 9 1.5 hour $3.00
Explore the many waves of migration that have occurred
in the Mid West. Discover what motivates people to leave
their homeland and the impact this change has on their
lives. Investigate the influence of different cultural groups
on our society and the contribution migrants have made to
the development of Western Australia.
Sustainable Seas
Years 4 – 9 1.5 hour $3.00
Students are guided through the Museum to hear, describe
and discuss different viewpoints in relation to issues such
as sustainable management of the crayfish industry, illegal
fishing, aquaculture (pearling), impact of advances in fishing
technology and eco-tourism. Students participate in hands on
activities which illustrate the concept that each individual’s
behaviour can promote sustainable use of the sea.
The Lead Mines of the Mid West
Years 5 - 9 1 hour $3.00
Prior to the gold discoveries of the 1890’s, this area was
the richest producer of minerals in the state. Hear stories
of the Welsh and Cornish miners who arrived in the 1850’s,
60’s and 70’s. Why did they come and what conditions did
they face? Discover the reason mines had such an impact
on the Mid West.
Conflict in the Mid West
Years 6 - 9 1 hour $3.00
Learn of the first contact between the Yamaji people and
the European settlers around Geraldton. Understand the
role Indigenous people played in opening up the Mid West,
and the tragic results from the conflict that arose.

Supervision guidelines:
Primary: Adult supervision of one adult per six students.
