VOLUNTEERS
The role of the Maritime Museum is to collect, preserve, research and display the maritime heritage of Western Australia.
Volunteers Program
The primary objective of the Volunteers Program is to encourage community involvement in the Museum.
The Maritime Museum Education Section was established in 1989 to assist in the display and the community education function of the Museum by promoting, to as wide an audience as possible, Western Australia's maritime heritage and the work and achievements in this area by the Museum.
An important means of achieving this aim is to engage the public directly in the heritage experience. Our most valuable means of delivering maritime heritage stories to school and community groups is by the personal involvement of our corps of trained Education Volunteers.
Numbering about 100, our volunteers deliver education tours and curriculum related programs across the Museum's multi-site Fremantle precinct. Sites include:
Shipwreck Galleries in Cliff Street;
Maritime Museum;
Submarine Ovens; and
A Shed Activity Centre on Victoria Quay.
