The historic development of the Fremantle and Swan River area is explored in this gallery, encompassing the natural, social and technological changes to the landscape. On the ground floor, changes to the natural river environment are explored side by side with the first steam pilot boat, the Lady Forrest, and early Swan River ferry the Valdura, both restored to original condition.
On the upper floor, next to the Cargoes Gallery, the history of the Fremantle harbour is told set against the ever-changing backdrop of shipping activity outside the Museum. Exhibits in this gallery have been sponsored by Fremantle Ports.
