Woodblock Floor Gallery

The wooden blocks in the floor of this gallery are made of jarrah, a local Western Australian timber and were part of the original building.

This gallery now has the Hartog to de Vlamingh Exhibition - 100 years of Dutch explorations of Australia.

In the darkness of the morning of June 1629, the VOC ship Batavia struck a reef in the Abrolhos Islands off the coast of Terra Australis Incognita... The resulting dark and grisly tale horrified the world...

Now a replica of the original Pelsaert's journal, that brought the horror of the mutiny to the world, is on display along with a collection of early charts, documents and books at the WA Maritime Museum's Hartog to De Vlamingh Exhibition.
