ITEM OF INTEREST
The Dunn Report
This report, commissioned by the Collections Council of Australia Ltd, outlines a proposal
for the establishment of a system of ‘Regional Collections Hubs’ across Australia to
support Australia’s regional collections and the people who work with those collections. It
aims to present a challenging and exciting way forward for communities and governments
to work in partnership to develop and protect the nation’s history.
The project brief was to prepare a proposal for the establishment of Regional Collections
Hubs across regional Australia, including consideration of funding and operational models,
implementation directions, duty statements for Regional Collections Advisers, business
planning frameworks and identification of success factors.
Many of the points raised in this report apply generally to the collections sector across
Australia. Respondents to the consultation that informs this report believe that there is a
critical and urgent need within regional and remote Australia, but point out that there is also
a pressing need in metropolitan areas.
