Arthur trained at the Marconi Radio School in UK, then joined the merchant navy in 1918 & worked as the ship's radio officer. In 1922 he decided to visit relatives in Perth but stayed on as a Jackeroo in Halls Creek & Hamelin Bay. He retrained for radio in 1939, joined 6GE & retired in 1968.
