William ('Crabby') Davis was transported to Australia in 1863, having been sentenced to ten years for arson. He completed his sentence and settled in Geraldton where he became a fisherman. In 1915 he was awarded The Royal Humane Society's Certificate of Merit for saving a boy from drowning.
