  • Hello everyone, I am a GGGGG (5) grandaughter of John Hole Duffield, still living in Perth, WA! According to Rica Erickson's 'Bicentennial Dictionary of Western Australians pre-1829 - 1888', John Hole Duffield was b. Feb 1797 and arrived on the Warrior at Fremantle on 12 Mar 1830. His wife and 4 children followed on the Egyptian, arriving 28 Dec 1831. Another 4 children were born in WA. Nice to meet you all!

  • The confusion about the name and birthdate is that John Hole Duffield who settled in WA had a son with the same name. He was born in 1819 and maybe he carried on the name again but this one born in 1859 but I don't have that info.Or perhaps the birthdate is a mistake!

  • Wow, I did not know there were so many other decendents!
He is my GGGG Grandfather, and upon moving house when I was born, my parents bought a house in Bicton, where I crew up, a block away from Foss St - named after Evelyn Foss Bell, my namesake. I went to Bicton Primary School, where my siblings and I were in Blue faction, which was aptly named Duffield.

I would love to connect to anyone that has copies of the Duffields of Bicton Publications - my grandparents have one volume that I know; I didnt know there were three. It would great to see if they were available at the local library. Like the first commenter said, I feel a great connection to this man.
I think a few people are confused as to the date at the top, that is the date he died not when he born, nor came to WA.

  • My brother and I are in the process of finalizing a history of the Duffields based on the 'Duffields of Bicton 3 volumes, as part of our family history and have done exhaustive research using Trove and other resources from WA. John Hole was my ggg grandfather.
The history should be completed in 2019 when we expect to place copies in the Western Australian Library as well as the Victoria State Library and the National Library.

  • Mybhusband Gregory Charles Wright-Baldock is a descendant on his mother’s side. We have been to two family reunions, one in WA and one in SA. Hundreds of descendants :) We are in the first book and met Oliver and Pauline many years ago. Fancy a descendant living in Bicton and being in a Duffield faction Wow. We lived in WA for a while and have also visited. Met a woman whose relative from back then probably met John Hole Duffield as he was the Surveyor at the time. Could not find mention of that in the books though. Would love a copy of the new book please! Email greg. jenni. wright @gmail.com (take out the spaces but not the full stops and this email address will work, it’s like this for security)

I grew up in Adelaide and have lived in Brisbane now for twenty plus years. I work for Queensland Government and an married with two children, Archie and Emily Duffield. A photo of me and my two brothers Peter Duffield and Ben Duffield appears in the Duffield of Bictons volumes. We were children in these photos.
