Joseph worked on a farm at Morawa, married Ivy McLeod & moved to Perth. They had two children, Raymond & Patricia. Joseph served in the airforce during WWII. Later lived at Parkerville, Bayswater, Walpole & Esperance. He worked as a cook at Hollywood & Charles Gairdiner Hospitals.
