John & Isabella McCarley from Northern Ireland, settled Greenough district. Originally tenant farmer for Hugh Hamersley, then farmed own land at Walkaway (Greenough back flats). In flood 1888, Cottage flooded, family climbed roof during night to save themselves, lost 400 sheep.
Sons John, Alexander born Ireland. Elizabeth, Isabella, Margaret, Nance and Stuart born in WA.

John McCarley married Isabella Knox in Broughshane 1st Presbyterian Church 4th July 1853. The baptisms of his 2 sons are also recorded at Broughshane 1st Presbyterian Church. The photo is taken from the rural area where he came from looking towards Slemish.
