Because of old age and uncertainty about the settlement destination in Australia Opa Christiaan Rietkerken who had been a member of the family unit since 1939 remained in the Netherlands in 1955. At age 78 Opa became the oldest Dutch migrant and was reunited with the family 12 months later in 1956.
