Jane-Eliza Coates (1821-1872) and brother William (both orphans) arrived on the same boat as Governor Stirling and she subsequently worked for him as a nursemaid. Jane-Eliza married Edward JH Byfield (the first publican of Mahogany Creek Inn) in 1841 and had 9 children. After his death, she married James D Gregory and had 3 more children.
