Alan initially worked as a jackaroo at Walkaway where he met Rose Wilson. They married in 1932, raising 3 children, Norm, Wendy and Lewese. He served in Borneo during WWII as a Staff Sergeant. Later, Alan and Rose lived at Caversham House and ran it as a function centre.
