Read their story

Tony Santich was an Australian Soldier in WWI. Under the Soldier settlement scheme he was allotted in 1920 a five acre block in Newton Road, Spearwood. He married Rene Ellement and had eight children ( Fred, Pearl, Arthur, Stanley, Rose, Lucy, Elsie & Victor). He worked with the Roads Board as a labourer, ands was a true pioneer of the area, clearing the land, establishing a small farm (vineyard, fruit trees, vegetable garden, poultry, eggs and rearing of pigs). Tony Santich and his family have contributed in making the Spearwood/Cockburn district a part of what it is today. On 18/11/94 it was a great tribute for the Santich family to be honoured by a park - known as “Santich Park”.
